A very clean place with extraordinary security measures. It was my first time to find a storage place where one has to insert their personal code 4 times before accessing their locker!!
The very wide and efficient lifts make the storage exercise the more easier.
The manager Darren is also very helpful, courteous and knows his job very well.
I will use this storage over and over again.

What a wonderful display of customer service! From the time of the original storage enquiry to signing on the dotted line I dealt with 3 very competent members of staff. Starting with a very pleasant lady called Dani then dealing with Daniel and Daz then finally back to Dani. I was given the option of various deals and then i was offered a deal that i couldn't refuse. I was totally impressed!
My only negative is I suggest the storage insurance is bought elsewhere you will save a fortune.Just check with the team that the company you want to use is acceptable to Suregard.
This is a brand new building that is actually not completely finished yet sitting just outside of central Croydon. If its possible to have a beautiful and safe storage facility this is it!!
Believe me the deals at the moment are definitely not to be sniffed at!

Whilst I do not understand why I can't buy boxes unless I'm a customer the guy I was talking too (daniel) was extremely helpful and polite about it, I may even take a lock up for the great £1 deal he said about!!

We needed storage and Shurgard in Croydon in Purley way gave us the best price.
We arrived not knowing anything but met Daniel who helped us from start to finish and was extremely friendly, professional and most importantly patient.
Ive honestly never met someone with such professionalism and so friendly at the same time. Usually when you have a lot of questions you feel that the sales person gets annoyed but definitely did not feel that with Daniel.

I found my experience with Shurgard very good. The customer service response was prompt on the phone and over email and when I changed my start date that was accommodated no problem. I found the pricing fair and the website very clear. On the day I took ownership of the storage I found the man who helped me through the paperwork and how to use the facility very clear, patient, helpful and professional. No issues with him at all. Excellent service, facility and price. My only slight downside was having to complete paperwork outside the office in very cold wind and drizzle. Perhaps unavoidable given covid but even standing inside near the door would have been better - avoiding my papers blowing away and my hands freezing whilst trying to write. Also the quote for monthly insurance was excessive.

Really enjoyed the service at Shurgard recently - no request was denied, exceptionally flexible attitude remaining integrity and still ensuring the highest level of security. The two gentlemen at the desk were marvelous and ensured efficiency of service.
This was my first time using self storage services so I'm no expert, but I'm very satisfied with the level of security and independence.

I was first drawn to this site by the incredible value for money. When I arrived on site I found it to be spotlessly clean and exceeded my expectations.

I was met by Darren who quite frankly just could not do enough to help. He showed me the available units that suited my needs and then gave the appropriate advice around size as apparently size does matter when it comes to storage.

He was an absolute pleasure to deal with and a credit to the company that he is representing. I would highly recommend that if you are looking for storage at a great price, then give Croydon, Purley Way a look and let Darren guide you through the seamless process.

Fantastic Service

Very helpful staff at all stages of the experience. The staff were very helpful on my initial phone call to book the storage. They were happy to explain the different sizes available and the booking process. I even need to re-schedule to a day earlier after booking and that was no problem at all. On arrival, I was greeted and taken care of by Julia who was a tremendous help throughout. Turns out we had to upgrade to a bigger unit but this was done with no issues at all. All in all, fantastic service.

As a student I am often in need of self storage companies and this one has been particularly useful; it's been flexible with the times I've needed and i couldn't have felt more secure with any other company (the customer service really helped me feel safe too).

In general the service has been excellent .
But I did receive a message asking me to pay online for a missed payment when all of my payments were up to date. The message also warned me that I could be charged extra for late payment. I phoned and was assured that the payment had been made but I was still not happy about the voicemail that had been left.

Does what it is supposed to do, however they need to do something about the doors not remaining open. The mechanism to do this has been broken for over 3 months now with a replacement door stop that is ineffective. This makes it a struggle to get a lot of boxes and things to be stored through the heavy door, that when closed, locks.

During the sweltering heat spells being in the lockup was unbearable. AC should be their next investment.

Unlike many other storage providers, all available units and prices are shown online, including our special offers.
The only extra costs new customers need to pay are a one-off administration fee and a unique sealed lock to your storage unit to guarantee no one else can access your belongings. Although all our facilities are fully insured, you still need to get an insurance to cover your stored items. Our rental prices cant include this because the cost depends on the value of your goods. Staff instore were polite and very helpful and storage was adequate for my needs.

However, the price could be cheaper and their refunds process could be handled quicker.

Ended my contract on 27th November 2018 and am still due a refund of over £100 which i should have received today based on their refunds policy. I have been told i could expect to wait another 10 days before I receive it despite them not having initiated the refund as yet.

Communication could be greatly improved as they rarely call you back and I have had to call them on numerous occasions to query when I will get money back and each time, I keep being told about how their refunds process work and that they can see my money on their account however they won't actually tell me when I will get it back.

This the second time of using however will definitely NOT be using them again!

NO trollies when we went to collect, sign on lifts OUT of ORDER, poor sod brought everything down by hand, while my daughter was reading the OofO sign I pressed lift, that guy went bonkers when it opened,

Took out life time half price offer advertised, but the price has risen more than twice since then. Called them to find out a standard price for the same container - it is exactly what I am paying now after 3 years with them, so no lifetime half price, but rather a one-year. No chance to reach any decision makers on the phone, you only get to random stores. Sent several emails, no answer for months. Avoid. Looking for somewhere to switch as soon as I can.

Shuregard promise to keep your things "safe and secure". Our unit was robbed, they used the same "contact your insurance company" line they are using in this case. They will make you BEG for money. It's an atrocious company that needs properly outed for what it is - a SCAM.

A friend of mine lost all his belongings in the fire recently. Which effected not only him but hundreds of others. He has been completely devastated with the lose and to make matters worse their customer service in the wake of the disaster has been appalling. People have entrusted you with their belongings, in the mutual contract that you would take care of it and you have broken that. Shame on you!!!! If I could five no star I would.

I stored all of my belongings in the Purley Way branch and on New Years Eve I saw everything I owned burned down to the ground. The companies CEO has gone into hiding and Shurgard are like Ostriches pretending like nothing has happened. To date us the victims of this fire have been ignored. False advertising and miselling of insurance are just a couple of things this disgusting company are guilty of.
If you want your belongings to be kept 'safe and secure' I would urge you to go with Big Yellow Storage as you will have far more luck than entrusting them with Shurgard!!!

I stored my belongings in what I believed to be a safe secure environment. It now turns out they had the bare minimum of fire safety, just enough to make it legal. They allowed nearly everything I own to be burnt. I had 1 phone message from them to tell me it had happened and literally no other help or contact.

Question: Why do you choose a storage company? Answer: So that you have peace of mind that they will be safe and secure in their hands. This is how Shurgard like to advertise and promote their services. In fact, they state that they go above and beyond this, to quote they are ‘super secure'

There were almost 1200 occupied units at the time of the fire, and ultimately Shurgard have FAILED each and every customer by not safeguarding and protecting all of their beloved, personal, valued, often very valuable, and irreplaceable possessions through their negligence in not having sufficient fire safety measures in place. They favoured burning the whole place down by not having sprinklers installed. A lot of their blog case studies completely contradict their Terms & Conditions by misleading customers to store pretty much anything they want to.

Heartless, uncompassionate, they have categorically refused to offer any form of compensation . At the absolute very least they should reimburse every single customer the amount each individual has spent over the months or years to Shurgard as ultimately they failed to provide a safe and secure service for their customers’ possessions resulting in everything destroyed.

It is absolutely abhorrent that their CEO Marc Oursin has conveniently been almost invisible to all of the customers he has failed, no messages of comfort or support personally or publicly. Almost like it didn’t happen.

Irresponsible, disgusting. We will not accept their cold, automated responses any more. They need to listen to their customers and act with moral responsibility.

NEVER store your belongings with Shurgard… EVER!!

I have lost hundreds of thousands of pounds of goods in the Purley Way - Croydon fire, and they don’t seem to care at all.

Shurgard stated that everyone would be contacted within 48 hours and given individual help with claims, in my case 18 full days have passed and we have not been contacted and I know that several other victims were left also in the dark. They should have had the decency to set up at least an emergency hotline in order to give further clarification and comfort to all affected immediately. I called Shurgard and their staff were rude, cold and insensitive, I asked if compensation from Shurgard was being considered and they replied categorically with a ’no’. Only the insurance would be paid, no further compensation whatsoever. I asked him to send me an email, putting in writing what he had just stated about the denial of further compensation, and he hung up the phone. Appalling.

Shurgard has misled their customers, distorted expectations of the risks and benefits of using its services. Specifically, it marketed itself as a very safe place to store goods of value, including stock of small businesses, while their advertising claimed to go above and beyond minimum regulations around fire and safety and the reality is that they didn’t have even sprinklers in place.

Labour MP for Croydon North Steve Reed said to the BBC that questions remained over how the fire was able to spread. And I quote "Not only was the design of the building not constructed to contain fire, it sounds like it was constructed to facilitate the spread of fire. The fact that the walls didn't go up to the top of every unit allows the flames to spread from one unit to another, the fact you have no idea what was in each unit... there could have been flammable material. There were no sprinklers in place. It sounds to me that these people have been sold services on the basis that this facility was safe and secure, but actually no measures have been put in to make sure a fire like this could get put out rapidly.”

I have written several emails to Shurgard's high-management requesting pertinent information about the fire incident and also the safety measures & security they had in place. I raised over 30 questions, and they have denied to answer them. I belong to a victims group with almost 300 other members, and I’m aware that many of them have contacted Shurgard with their enquiries as well - and their denial seems to be the same to everyone.

It’s also very surprising there is none or very little involvement from the CEO Marc Oursin. There are no comforting messages from him to the victims in any press release or news that we’ve seen, only complacent humdrum from mid or lower management. Marc has conveniently managed to become almost invisible since the tragedy which has happened under his watch. We know It’s within his duties as a CEO to communicate on behalf of the company to the public, to ensure that the company maintains high social responsibility wherever it does business and to assess the risks to the company and ensure they are monitored and minimised. The victims expected him to have demonstrated publicly at least more sympathy, and none has been offered.

Shurgard has failed in their competence and promises to keep safe & secure the belongings of over a thousand customers.

One of these most disgusting self storage out there. Since the fire on the 31.12.18, I have not received one phone call from these people. My belongings which did put in storage, has all GONE. This is one of worst things that has happened to me. Shurgard need to learn a lot more with regards to treating your customers with a bit of respect. Anyone looking to storage there good DO NOT GO TO SHURGARD.

Until the fire that devestated the facility at Purley Way, I had no complaints with the service provided. However, a week after the fire and I have still not been contacted by Shurgard other than a couple of email updates. Very disappointed after 4.5 years of loyal custom.

Started to rent 50 sq.ft. unit April 2018. November 2018 rent increased by 25%. Queried such a large increase after just 6 months with Shurgard and prospects of similar increases in the future. The (eventual) reply by Shurgard did not address in any way my query but did "remind" me of the cancelation notice period/procedure if I wanted to quit. Did not get to the next six monthly review period due April 2019 as in December 2018 entire storage facility burned to the ground. I would advise any prospective customers of Shurgard to read T&C's (seriously - as they are ultimately not liable for very much if anything) or as a minimum get a proper briefing by staff on site security and discovery of fire procedures particularly when no staff on site so you understand what you are signing up to and can make an informed decision. Also you do not need to take out insurance through Shurgard. It is compulsory but much cheaper and equally good insurance available. I have had previous experience (8+ years) of self storage with Storage King (Epsom) and Access (New Malden). Both locations had annual (not six monthly) increases of a few percent. Both location no issues with facilities or staff.

I am one of the unfortunate people who has suffered to loose a lot of personal items. Almost 4 days after the tragedy still no contact from the area manager!!

This is such a disgrace as quick to take money but very poor service in return. This is a distraught time and to hear on the news and friends of the disaster but nothing from shurgard appalling!!!!! As clients we should have been informed immediately. Even if it is a personal call to just explain what has happend and advise of the process.

To not have sprinkler systems is it a method to cut corners and reduce cost at our expense. I was never notified of no sprinkler system and I would have gone elsewhere. Shurgard should cover everyone as a sprinkler water system could have saved some people's belongs and prevented a huge tragedy

Such a shame especially with no personal contact.

Such tragic news. My family had a container with Shurgard Purley Way, which contained everything we ever owned and so far we have had no communication whatsoever from Shurgard. This is truly heart breaking news for not only myself but for other customers too, the sentimental items that were stored will never be able to be replaced.

avoid at any cost. horrid storage. they give your details to anybody who asks for it. your personal information is not safe with them. the way they deal with their complains is unbelievable. there are many storage facilities to choose from with proper service and fully trained staff.
